This weekend, you can do some floating on the Danube canal – or “Donaukanaltreiben”, as the locals call it. Music, poetry, and culture – even though I don’t quite see how they pack that all on a raft and send it floating on the canal.

Into the city

Next Saturday, Stermann and Grissemann will do what they are best at: talking non-sense in public (though I heard they also do that if they do not have an audience to impress). They will be supported by Russkaja, Balkan Beat Box and many others. And for some reason, 100,000 roses will be handed out by Austria’s semi-prominence… Whatever…

Transmitter Failure - Jenny Owen Youngs

Went to Regina Spektor yesterday – the supporting act was Jenny Owen Youngs, and she was great (Regina was also quite ok). Jenny did a lot of hopping (’cause someone in the audience asked her to), and she commended the Viennese audience for clapping about 15% more than usual at other European concerts where she performed. Though it has to be said that the Gasometer is the worst location for a concert which can possibly be found in Vienna.

She said she would come to the merchandise booth after the concert, and she actually really did!

Far - Regina Spektor

Of course, it ain’t ever too far to see Regina Spektor live  on stage – but I am quite happy that the stage is only a couple of minutes away from dergelbeSalon, actually. So if you have nothing better to do on December 16 – and chances are there is nothing better anyway…

To sum up her music in 11:11 minutes: it’s like having a love affair, on the back of a truck, with Mary Ann, who is Pavlov’s daughter, in case you didn’t know. And she’ll send you flyin‘, because I want to sing, either in buildings or in plain sunshine! Or maybe so…

Agaetis Byrjun

Sigur Rós are celebrating their 10th anniversary of their breakthrough album “Agaetis Byrjun” – and for that reason, they made a live version available on their website, from the release in the Icelandic opera house in Reykjavík some time in 1999. 12 minutes of their great music in one track…

If you don’t have anything useful to do tomorrow evening (Friday, June 5 2009), you might want to drop by at the Unplugged in Vienna at around 8 o’clock. I am not sure if going there is more useful than not doing anything at all, but it could be fun!

Lambchop - Nine

From Nashville, TN, to WUK in Vienna – Lambchop are in town again! (no, lambchop is not food – it’s music, and great one at that!) On July 1, 2009, Kurt Wagner and Co. will play at the WUK. I have seen them live at the WUK a couple of years ago. At one point during their performance, one of them lied down on the stage to tell some pantomime joke – I didn’t see anything, as did nobody else in the audience, but Kurt assured us that it was funny indeed.

Tüwi Festival 2009

Der gelbe Salon will be unavailable this afternoon, because we will climb the “Mountain of Bokutopia” to lie in the sun in front of Tüwi and listen to nice music (there might be some beer and “Pfirsichspritzer” for friends dropping by).

Later at night, there is a chance to hear Dunkelbunt live – but in the last years, it was always too crowded to get anywhere near the Tüwi at that time.
